Novinium host Masters of Reliability event in Seattle

March 13, 2012 – Novinium, Inc. announces an opportunity for the electrical distribution industry to learn from the masters of reliability. Utility engineers will be introduced to marquee reliability experts on the Seattle Waterfront. The event is being held in conjunction with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) Insulated Conductors Committee (ICC) on March 26th. A central purpose of the gathering is to introduce an emerging IEEE guide called IEEE P1816™, short for “Guide for Preparation Techniques of Extruded Dielectric, Shielded Cable Rated 2.5 kV through 46 kV and the Installation of Mating Accessories.” Details of the event can be viewed at

The P1816 guide is specifically designed to improve the craftsmanship of electrical power distribution utility line workers. These improvements have been demonstrated to increase post-construction reliability. During the evening, attendees will be provided with a new companion reference book to P1816, be introduced to online training opportunities for their craft colleagues, and hear from industry experts on a variety of reliability subjects.

Each of the speakers will introduce a reliability topic, which will be presented in more detail at future webinars in the series. The event’s host, Glen Bertini, the founder and CEO of Novinium, commented, “I had the great privilege to participate in the writing of the IEEE P1816. The writing group included component manufacturers, circuit owners, testing laboratories, and reliability fanatics like me with hundreds of years of cumulative experience. Collectively the group could bear witness to practices that work without fail and practices that are unacceptable. We view P1816 and the training we will provide as a floor and we aspire to perform even better. Those who attend this event will be invited to join the masters of reliability in our quest for craft perfection.”

Novinium was founded in 2003 in the Seattle area by some of the same people who conceived and commercialized the earlier generation of rejuvenation. Novinium provides cable rejuvenation products and services to circuit owners and their service suppliers in the United States and around the world. Our primary products are novel fluids, methods, and tools to inject stranded underground cable. The patented Novinium injection process rejuvenates and extends the reliable life of underground power cable up to 40 years. Novinium’s products address circuit owners’ infrastructure problems at a fraction of the cost of existing methods, save energy, save natural resources, and reduce greenhouse gases by eliminating the need for additional production of aluminum and polymers for new cables.
